#QUOTE

"Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." ― Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

Live for now, not for the future. Things will happen to you that are beyond your control, focus on what is within your control rather than outside of it.

#READING

The Smartest Website You Haven't Heard of

//bedelstein

If you have a background in engineering you probably have heard of this site before!--McMaster-Carr. On the surface, McMaster-Carr breaks many of the typical UX foundations, but the site is 100% functional and serves a specific customer and serves them well. Not only do they deliver an exceptional experience online, but once you place your order, it will arrive FAST--generally in 1 or 2 days.

Let's give it a try and compare it to Amazon:

  • Search for a 1/4"-20 x 1" bolt on McMaster-Carr

  • Search for a 1/4"-20 x 1" bolt on Amazon

While Amazon has started to create search-specific filtering, McMaster will beat them any day

#LEARNING

Not everything is a priority

//swipefile

Just a general reminder that not everything is a priority. Know the difference between urgent and important and then prioritize appropriately.

By the way -- I'm compiling a list of my top frameworks, let me know if you'd like to check it out!

#PODCASTS

I keep finding more and more amazing podcasts every month. It was hard to recommend just these two!

Elizabeth II

//howtotakeovertheworld

The life and times of Elizabeth II, the late queen of the United Kingdom. Amazing podcast episode by Ben Wilson.

Joe Rogan interviews Steve Jobs

//podcastai

I'd be surprised if you haven't seen this one by now. This podcast was created entirely by AI using audio from Joe Rogan and audio from Steve Jobs. While there are some weird glitches during this podcast, it is amazing what they've created here and I'm excited (and scared) to see what else we create in the next couple of years. Soon enough we'll have custom podcasts and videos for whatever you search.

You should also vote on these episode ideas! I'm interested to hear this one: Elon Musk interviews Nikola Tesla

Guy I know cancels all his employee credit cards randomly, once a year. Finds ~50% of expenses disappear. All kinds of stuff that was auto-renewing that folks don’t care enough about to re-sign up for. Claims to save six figs/year each time he does it.

Wow, maybe I should start doing this with my credit cards to see how much I save. With subscriptions becoming more and more prevalent, this is the new #lifehack

I don’t use the word “sorry” when I apologize. The word is usually an easy cop-out for having to work through the mistake. Instead, I share with the person: 1. what it is I believe I did wrong, 2. what I learned from it, and 3. how I’ll try to avoid doing it again.

I love this. Sorry is overused and is now meaningless. This is a great 3-step framework

The weirdest flight ever. These sounds started over the intercom before takeoff and continued throughout the flight. They couldn’t stop it, and after landing still had no idea what it was.

#WATCHING

1994: Are YOU Ready for the INTERNET?

//youtube

This surprisingly aged incredibly well. I can only imagine how many people were skeptics when they first saw this.
