US Department of Energy: Fusion Ignition Achieved

The US Department of Energy and its National Nuclear Security Administration announced that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has achieved fusion ignition, a scientific breakthrough that could lead to advancements in national defense and clean power. The experiment at the National Ignition Facility produced more energy from fusion than the laser energy used to drive it, and could provide insights into the feasibility of clean fusion energy and support the NNSA's Stockpile Stewardship Program.
This is basically saying: Energy Released > Ignition Energy. It is not saying: Energy Release > Total Energy used. This means that the lasers used to deliver the energy consumed more energy than was added to the nuclear ignition. Nonetheless, this is a huge accomplishment, I would say we are still at least 10 years out from commercial-viable nuclear fusion.
My recommendation would be to continue investing in fusion and guaranteed energy sources such as nuclear fission and solar while substantially reducing our reliance on oil.
